About ICGS

What We Do To Accomplish Our Mission

To accomplish our mission, members of the ICGS join resources to improve communication and to perform community service. Some of our recent activities and programs are listed below.

We work together by

Applesauce canning project

  • Helping plan and launch the Faith and Homeless Families program.
  • Cooperating with homeless projects such as Loaves and Fishes and the One Day to End Homelessness.
  • Helping to prepare 18,000 cans of applesauce which was donated to food closets, Senior Gleaners and other organizations that feed those who need help with food - December 2010.
  • Generating awareness of the plight of the homeless, resulting in the donation of 1200 sleeping bags for the homeless in the Sacramento area.
  • Working with Sacramento City and the interfaith community to try to bring the Dalai Lama to Sacramento.
  • Joining with the US Corps of Chaplains in supporting the children and families of deployed National Guard troops by encouraging faith groups to monitor families whose members are away at military bases and circumstances.
  • Sponsoring an annual cultural event in Sacramento, such as the Call to Unity interfaith musical event, a remembrance program in response to the events of September 11, 2001.
  • Bringing people of many faiths together and speaking out after the synagogue arson incidents in the 1990s to condemn the arson.
  • Supporting the creation of the International World Peace Rose Garden in Capitol Park.
  • Sponsoring quarterly interfaith Days of Dialogue so churches and congregations can have a voice in planning and shaping the interfaith work in the region.
  • Working with the county jails (downtown and Elk Grove facilities) to help with chaplaincy needs.
  • Joining in the Drug Coalition and the Take Back Oak Park Program.

We celebrate together and honor each other's religious festivals

  • Participating in Jewish Seder dinners
  • Celebrating the opening of a new wing at the Sikh Temple in West Sacramento - April 18, 2010
  • We work closely with many religious groups by attending their services, helping with their programs and events (when asked to do so) and by encouraging all in our region to understand and believe that we are all children of God ... living in the same house, but entering through different doors.
